PERSONALITY TRAITS
Nova is a very unique and special girl. She had a horrible start to life very early on. Because of this she needs a person(s) that will give her special attention, lots of patience, not force her into unfamiliar
situations and let people know not to interact with her until she is ready. She needs to know they will
not abuse her. Nova is not a dog for everyone – she needs a very special kind of understanding
human(s).
She needs:
• Consistency with <positive reinforcement> training and routine
• Time to adapt to new situations/things/people – all must be taken slowly
• Needs to be on leash when meeting new people, letting her use her nose to smell people from a distance.
• Due to her excitement level needs slow intro to other dogs
• Child-free environment
She is:
• Medium-high energy level
• Dog friendly
• Improving meeting new people
Once you bond with Nova she will be your best friend. She is very loyal and she will let you do anything to her once she trusts you. You will have a very faithful companion. When she gets past her
fears she knows her commands and she walks well on a leash. It just takes consistency and some time
but it’s worth it.
Are you interested in meeting Nova...understanding her needs in order for her to succeed? If so, please
contact Dan the Dog Trainer (above). She is a wonderful pooch – you will not be sorry!
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 1-1/2 years
GOOD WITH: Other dogs with proper introduction; no kids, cats or other small animals

Webster- PAWS PRISON PROGRAM GRADUATE! CHECK OUT MY PAWS CGC VIDEO LINK!
Webster is available for adoption!
Webster is a recent 2024 PAWS Prison Program Graduate! Click the link below to watch his Canine Good Citizen final test at PAWS! Webster scored an impressive 10/10!
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Webster is a handsome, fun, FUN guy!
Here is what one of his favorite volunteers has to say about him-
“Webster is such a cool dog. He has such an easy way about him. He has a such a good temperament. Especially for a young dog. He loves his walks and getting out to smell all the smells, but also will lay in the shade and chew on a stick or get a belly rub.
He is such a beautiful boy. I especially love his short, white eye lashes. And he is so smart and well behaved. He can get a little distracted and pull on the leash, but he easily corrects most of the time. I really enjoy spending time with him. He has a very calming presence about him. He is going to be a really special dog for someone.”
Webster is a rowdy tumble fun player, pairing him with another dog that can match his energy and endurance is best!
PAWS final report before on week 8-
This week was primarily focused on getting ready for Webster’s final CGC’s as well as continuing to shape tricks. When we first started working towards the MOC CGC’s Webby had a hard time working for no reward because we don’t use kibble during CGC’s so it was time to start fading them out. After a few sessions of no kibble, we went to only 5-6 pieces to keep him rewarded and engaged. During the next couple of days, he started performing much better in each MOC circle as he got used to working only for praise and engagement. Today Webby passed his final CGC’s with a 10/10 and did a great job! I was proud of his engagement and struggles that we both worked hard to overcome during the final test. Webby is such a sweet, loving boy who would never harm a soul. He loves his food, cuddles, and toys more than anything! Webby is very much ready to go out and find his forever home!

Charles- AUG 2024 PAWS PRISON PROGRAM GRADUATE!
CHARLIE IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Charles is a new PAWS graduate! We will update his bio when we get his final week 8 report and CGC test results!
Weekly Summary Week 7 :
This week Charlie has been doing exceptionally well. Charlie still struggles a bit with engagement due to having a great personality and waiting to say hi to everyone. Charlie and Wilson are also best friends so when they see each other it can be a big distraction in circles. We will be working this week on giving less treats to Charlie to prepare him for his final CGC test next Saturday. Charlie seems to respond quite well with all the commands except stand-stay inspection without using treats. We hope with a lot of work this week he will be ready for his test.
8/3/24 Daily Journal Entry
Today Charlie seemed to be adjusting okay to us giving him less treats for rewards. We have been practicing all the CGC’s with him and he’s doing great. The only thing that he still seems to struggle with is CGC 3 which is standing inspection. He lacks duration. That’s something that the team is focused on practicing with him..
Charlie is a lover and would love to be showered with attention – after a day of playing and exploring, that is. He is a smart boy and can entertain himself for hours. He is eager to please, easy to handle, and is torn between soliciting affection or playing with his person. All he wants is a loving home with people to call...FAMILY!
What more can we say? If Charles sounds like the missing piece to your family puzzle please submit our pre-adoption application.

Sancho
Sancho is available for adoption!
From Foster mom Volunteer Jada-
This handsome boy is Sancho, and he has been our foster for the past couple of weeks. He came to BBBR in rough shape with some medical issues and was pretty shut down from the stress of the shelter, cherry eye surgery and overall just not feeling well. He had a follow up eye surgery once he made it to BBBR and is healing very nicely. He is also battling some overall itchiness and potentially some allergies, but we have been working to get him feeling better. Sancho is an incredibly affectionate guy once he opens up. We have been working on setting personal space boundaries teaching him what appropriate affection looks like. He is a very strong guy and has a tendency to want to climb all over people and play pretty rough.
Sancho’s is a toy fanatic! He absolutely loves to play with toys, everything from fetch, flirt pole, tug, or just chewing on a bone. Like I mentioned, he lacks a lot of respect of space and can play pretty rough, so we are working on teaching him an “Out” command while playing and learning when to shut off once play time is over. Sancho also loves to play in the water. He is enjoying the pool we got for him as well as playing with the hose. He loves being outside and would spend his entire day playing in the pool and sunbathing if we let him. Sancho is becoming more food motivated since we have been doing some counterconditioning work with him to get him interested in it again. He was pretty suspicious anytime he was offered food or treats, and it was likely because food was used to distract him for medical exams and other things he had a negative association with.
We have been getting him out and about to parks and other public places to observe how he reacts around strangers, dogs, kids etc. Overall, he has done really well and is neutral in most scenarios, sometimes a bit over excited. We have also been doing a lot of pack walks to help get him walking better on the lead. He is doing so much better and frequently checks in with us through out the walk and easily redirects with a “Let’s Go” cue.
Sancho does have some separation anxiety tendencies and really struggles with being crated. We have been leaving him for short periods of time each day in a bedroom and while he tends to bark initially when we leave that behavior is getting less and less. He is not a dog that I would allow to free roam while unsupervised though, he is very curious and will try to get into things he shouldn’t. We have started crate training, but he still has a ways to go to be comfortable in the crate.
Sancho is a total sweetheart and so much fun but will keep you on your toes. He needs family who will be willing to continue training with him and holding firm boundaries with him and with that he will be the bestest boy!"

Frappe- CURRENTLY A STAR STUDENT ATTENDING PAWS PRISON TRAINING PROGRAM!
Frappe is available for adoption!
PERSONALITY TRAITS
Frappe is energetic and fun! This girl is on the smaller side, around 37 pounds. Frappe is recovering from a bad skin infection, and looks so much better! Her fur is growing in nicely. She will need a good diet to maintain her healthy coat.
BBBR Vol Jada writes, "Frappe is a caffeinated ball of fun that is sure to jumpstart your day. Frappe is full of that unhindered puppy excitement but matches your energy and will settle if you meet her with a calm energy. She enjoys all types of play with toys as well as the water. Frappe is very food motivated and will completely refocus her attention when you redirect her with food. She clearly shows a strong drive to learn which will make training much easier. This girl definitely has a lot of energy, but I feel that in a home environment with proper outlets for this energy through both mental and physical exercise she will be a great companion. Despite her energy level, this kiddo is kitty friendly!"
Her shelter /foster reported-
Silly girl that likes to explore and pester her temp foster siblings (2 cats, 2 dogs). She is always happy and ready to play. Very quiet in kennel and likes to cuddle.

JuneBug - CURRENTLY A STAR STUDENT ATTENDING PAWS PRISON TRAINING PROGRAM!
Junebug is available for adoption!
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Junebug arrived to BBBR with her friend Maui. They very much like each others company, and find comfort in being kenneled where they can see one another.
Junebug is easy to gear, but is a pretty strong girl on leash. Junebug would benefit from a round of postitive reinforcement training, particularly for leash walking and recall.
Junebug is loving and playful. She is on alert and always observing all around her.
BBBR Vol Jada reports-
JUNEBUG IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
BBBR Vol Jada writes, "Junebug is a sweet girl and affectionate girl. She enjoys playing with toys and is very treat motivated. I did notice she has some subtle anxieties that manifest as wide eyes, some frantic sniffing of new areas and she struggles to fully relax. She isn't overly energetic or jumpy, but is looking for stimuli through sniffing or movement to pacify those anxious feelings. She came in with Maui and really seemed to look to him and his confidence for security. A calm and confident dog might be a great companion to help her confidence. She really feeds off of your energy and settles in best when you bring a confident and calm demeanor. Junebug will need a family with will be willing to work to build her confidence and help her become the best version of herself. I have no doubt that anyone willing to help her grow that confidence will build such a strong bond between her and her new family!"

King- CURRENTLY A STAR STUDENT ATTENDING PAWS PRISON TRAINING PROGRAM!
King is available for adoption!
King is only 9 months old, not mouthy or jumpy, takes treats gently, and no accidents in his kennel! Quite amazing for his age and all he's been through. This cute guy isn't very big, but his smile sure is!
From BBBR volunteer Jada-
"King is such a sweet and mellow guy for his age. He still has that playful puppy spirit, but he is not jumpy or mouthy towards people. King was pretty excited when I approached his kennel to leash him up and he did jump on the kennel gate but once I leashed him he mellowed out and was easy to walk. In the yard he was very distracted by all the smells and didn't care too much for when I called him over.
Once the newness wore off he wanted to engage with me much more. He is a bit food motived but will definitely choose other exciting things over food. He knows how to sit and lay down already!
He loved it once I brought the toys out. He was very playful but I didn't have any issues getting the toys back from him as he'd drop them once he came back to me. He is such a sweet and goofy boy but he is still very young and can be easily distracted. He would benefit from some basic obedience training to guide him and help build that bond with his new family!"
The shelter reported:
FROM THE SHELTER:
King is a playful, sweet, lovable, goof ball that deserves a chance at life!
A note from King:
Hi, my name is King! I am an adorable little guy. I was homeless living on the streets of a rural town in south TX. I ended up at the small outdoor animal shelter and now I need someone to rescue me! I really want to have a family of my own that cares and loves me. I am very sweet and friendly. I met another dog at the shelter and it was so interesting, we wagged our tails and sniffed each other. I would love to find a family with a dog friend to teach me the ropes! Since I am still young, I love to learn and you can teach me so many manners and tricks! Please give me a chance!

Braydin just arrived, we will update her bio and photos when we get to know her better!

PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Braydin is a sweet and loving girl that is good with other dogs and enjoys off leash doggy playgroups. She is good with respectful children, 8 years old plus are advised. She wouldn't want to accidentally
knock a toddler over! She would love a doggy house-mate to play with and show her the ropes!
A round of positive reinforcement training classes would be beneficial to Braydin for her to brush up on her basic commands. She is relatively leash trained but a little extra work in that department would be helpful. Braydin loves the water - she will even dunk her head in it! She has a soft mouth and will
take treats gently.

COAT LENGTH: Short
HEALTH: All rescue dogs are vaccinated, altered, and micro-chipped.

Wilson- AUG 2024 PAWS PRISON PROGRAM GRADUATE!
Wilson is available for adoption!
From BBBR Vol Jada-
Wilson is a gorgeous velvety boy who just returned from the PAWS prison program, where he completed his Canine Good Citizen certification. This sweet boy can be a little slow to warm up but once he does, he loves nothing more than to sit at your feet to be loved on. One of his biggest struggles at PAWS was all the loud noises and large groups of people and while it improved this is still something he struggles with. Wilson will need a slower paced home with someone who will be willing to continue to build his confidence in the world.
Wilson loves the water and will jump right into the pools we have at the facility, and he also loves to play with toys. It was really fun to see his goofball side emerge once the toys came out. Wilson is food motivated but can be picky when it comes to asking him for a behavior in return while around a lot of distractions. I didn’t see any negative behaviors around the toys or food, he easily gives up his toys to continue the play. Wilson also did well with interactions with other dogs up at the prison program and having another calm and confident dog around might help build his confidence. This boy is so incredibly sweet and affectionate, he will just need a family who is willing to take some additional time to help this guy flourish. I would not recommend a home with young kiddos or any overly busy home with many people coming and going frequently. I know that if given the chance Wilson will make the best companion.
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
The shelter reported- Despite ending up at the shelter as a stray, Wilson still is the sweetest, most loving dog. He's very
affectionate and really just wants to be a lap dog. He loves water and enjoys the kiddy pool – he pretends he's swimming around in it! Wilson is very dog and people friendly. He's not been tested with kids and right now he's a bit hyper but that is most likely from being in a kennel most of the time. He would probably mellow out in a safe, comfortable home environment. Right now, staff would advise
older – 7+ years – respectful kids.
Wilson is a very sweet, lovable goofball that is looking for a family/person of his very own. If you think you may want to find a loving, loyal companion that will be by your side for hopefully many years, please submit an application!
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 2 years
COAT LENGTH: Short
HEALTH: All rescue dogs are vaccinated, altered, and micro-chipped.
GOOD WITH: Other dogs; older (7+) respectful children; cats and/or other small animals unknown

Bubba- NEW ARRIVAL!
Bubba is available for adoption!
BBBR volunteer Jada reports- Bubba stole my heart. He is an old soul in a young body. Bubba is so very gentle and just wants to be close to his people. He loves to just hang out, leaning his entire body weight into you all while you pet him into a sweet slumber. Bubba can be a little shy in new environments but warms up quickly. Bubba was easy to gear up and walked nicely to the yard. He is very food motivated and knows how to “sit” and “down”. He hasn’t shown any interest in toys thus far, he’d rather just hang out and warm your feet. Bubba is seriously such a catch for anyone looking for a lower energy dog and who wants to be showered with affection.
The shelter reported-
PERSONALITY TRAITS:

stuffies and soaking up the summer sun. He does well with other non-dominant dogs and enjoys off leash doggy playgroups. Bubba knows some basic commands and is leash and crate trained. Respectful

Biscuit- NEW ARRIVAL!
Biscuit is available for adoption!
Biscuit just arrived, we are getting to know him better. We will update his photos and bio soon!
The shelter and foster family reported-
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Biscuit is dog friendly and enjoys off leash doggy playgroups. He is house, leash and crate trained. Due to his size older (8+) respectful children are advised. He is handling shelter life well – here is a guy that
has learned early on to roll with the punches!
Biscuit is an adorabull, healthy boy that has a great zest for life! He came to the shelter as an owner
surrender but the back story is he was picked up by oil field workers as a stray and hung out with them at an oil field rig for about 3 weeks – until their rotation ended. They then brought Biscuit to the shelter.
(We thank them for not just leaving Biscuit to fend for himself!)
Notes from the shelter:
Biscuit is a big, snuggly meatball who has done great with other dogs, is lovely on leash, is adorable with his toys and is outgoing with people. He’s not *that* giant, but he is thick. He is medium energy at
best. He is 3 years old and weighs 90 lbs. We are happy to run down more info or do more vetting to increase his chances of being selected. He’s a cool dog, seems well-suited for almost any home. Kids are a-ok (maybe older if better though because of his size)
Foster family-
Biscuit is big and bouncy but when tuckered out (just a walk or a swim in the water) is a great snuggle. He's great on leash, totally house trained, and tolerates his kennel very well (he eats in his kennel, sleeps there overnight, and is kenneled when left alone). He is a lover of all dogs (he's in foster with a rescue director so has lived with about 30 dogs over the last 4 months) and is pretty respectful if dogs don't want to play. He is absolutely safe with little dogs, we recently had an adult 6 lb-er and she absolutely dominated him. Biscuit is living with 4 cats, has no interest in them, if they often end up sleeping on the couch together. Biscuit loves water, loves fetch and tug, and gives great kisses! He's very human attuned and eager to bond with his someone, though is more comfortable with women than men. Biscuit does startle at loud noises/commotion and can be a nervous fellow in new situations. He spent a week with an 7 year old and was almost immediately comfortable with her. He’s good in the car, mostly quiet, oozes loads of joie de vivre and has become a wonderful, proper pet. He is not destructive in the house and doesn't have any situational anxiety that we have seen. His recall is perfect and he enjoys lots of off-leash time too. He has been in foster since 4/6. He was at risk for euthanasia in the Pecos Animal Shelter.
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 3 years
COAT LENGTH: Short
HEALTH: All rescue dogs are vaccinated, altered, and micro-chipped. HW negative.
GOOD WITH: Other dogs AND CATS; older (8+) respectful children; other small animals unknown
