PERSONALITY TRAITS
Nova is a very unique and special girl. She had a horrible start to life very early on. Because of this she needs a person(s) that will give her special attention, lots of patience, not force her into unfamiliar
situations and let people know not to interact with her until she is ready. She needs to know they will
not abuse her. Nova is not a dog for everyone – she needs a very special kind of understanding
human(s).
She needs:
• Consistency with <positive reinforcement> training and routine
• Time to adapt to new situations/things/people – all must be taken slowly
• Needs to be on leash when meeting new people, letting her use her nose to smell people from a distance.
• Due to her excitement level needs slow intro to other dogs
• Child-free environment
She is:
• Medium-high energy level
• Dog friendly
• Improving meeting new people
Once you bond with Nova she will be your best friend. She is very loyal and she will let you do anything to her once she trusts you. You will have a very faithful companion. When she gets past her
fears she knows her commands and she walks well on a leash. It just takes consistency and some time
but it’s worth it.
Are you interested in meeting Nova...understanding her needs in order for her to succeed? If so, please
contact Dan the Dog Trainer (above). She is a wonderful pooch – you will not be sorry!
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 2 years
GOOD WITH: Other dogs with proper introduction; no kids, no cats or other small animals

Mikey- FEB 2025 PAWS PRISON PRISON PROGRAM GRAD!
Mikey is available for adoption!
Mikey recently had a getaway to a temp foster- it was reported he did AWESOME! He is great in the car and in the house. He loves to walk and hike. If you are an active family or person, Mikey is the pup for you! Mikey is also housetrained.
Mikey is a recent PAWS prison training program graduate!
PAWS report -
Weekly Summary Week 7:
This week was great for Mikey! We spent lots of time shaping tricks, making videos, taking pictures, and getting prepared for his final test. Mikey is such an excellent dog and it was a privilege to work with him this round. I know he’ll find his forever home in no time!
2/8/25 Daily Journal
Today we had our final pre CGC preparation test. Mikey scored a 9/10. He had a good test, but during his sit and down he wouldn’t down so I just skipped the command because he wouldn’t pay attention and during his recall he came towards me then lost engagement and focused on sniffing the carpet. Overall, Mikey did so good this round and I am proud of the dog he is.
Check out his CGC video test link below!
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 2 years
COAT LENGTH: Short
HEALTH: All rescue dogs are vaccinated, altered, and micro-chipped.
GOOD WITH: Other dogs; respectful older (12+ y/o) children; other small animals unknown. Cat tested/would likely do okay with dog savvy cats.

Thor- PAWS GRAD!
Thor is available for adoption!
Thor is a six year old gentleman who just loves to walk at his own pace, and sunbathe, boy does he love the warm sunshine. Sure, he can jog a bit, or walk quite the distance, but his pace will be decided by using his built in Thor-ometer. He is a chill dude who wants to take in all the beauty around him while enjoying his day and his people. When Thor smiles, he lights up the world. He has the best smile!
Thor aced his Canine Good Citizen test 10/10! Way to go Thor! Click below to watch Thor take his test!
PAWS report week 6/8
Weekly Summary: 6
This week we worked on preparing Thor for his final Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test.
He did very good in all the commands that he usually struggled with like; standing still for inspection, and returning to the heel position on recalls. The entire team has done very well getting him ready as he did pass with the score of 10/10. Thor has been such a great dog showing no signs of aggression and remaining a low energy pet. He will be the perfect addition to any family.
Daily Journal Entry:
Today Thor got some overtime work with the few commands he still struggles with. It has been rainy this week and he hasn’t had a chance to get out and run so it may be some of that also. He went for his first side by side ride and absolutely loved it.

Arrow- GRADUATING PAWS TRAINING 6/18!
GET YOUR APPLICATION IN SOON!
Arrow is available for adoption!
Arrow is completing his second course at PAWS!
WEEKLY SUMMARY: WEEK SIX/EIGHT
Throughout this week we have had so much fun letting Arrow be a dog and enjoying his last couple of weeks here with us! We worked mostly on duration commands and the team has been working hard on shaping all Arrow’s tricks! So far Arrow knows spin, roll over, shake (either paw), center, back, pose, and bow. For these commands we hardly use lures at all and we plan to have more tricks shaped by the time he leaves! It has helped tremendously to shape tricks and give Arrow something to learn and offer outside of our basic obedience commands.
DAILY JOURNAL: 5/31/25
Today we spent lots of time outside playing in the pool and letting Arrow chase the garden hose. Water is his favorite thing ever, so I find it super important to let him play in it as much as possible each day to keep him happy and from getting bored indoors. This evening we had about a 45 minute play session with Boulder, and they did absolutely great! They both drank from the same water bucket a few times too with zero resource guarding issues.

Brock- GRADUATING PAWS TRAINING 6/18!
GET YOUR APPLICATION IN SOON!
Brock is available for adoption! He returns to Boise/Meridian in 3 weeks.
Brock attended PAWS for session 2!
Here is week 5 of 8 report-
Week Summary: Five
Date: 6/1/25
Brock is such an amazing dog and he has so much potential to be a loyal, well behaved pet. He’s a completely different dog than what he was the first time he showed up in Orofino. He was extremely reactive to other dogs and there wasn’t a time when he would see another dog without going absolutely crazy. We now are able to let him off lead and trust that he will come when he is called. Brock is a dog that needs constant work and an understanding of his flaws. His desire to play outweighs everything else at times, but it’s not aggressive in nature. He’s a playful animal that needs dedication and support in his progression forward.
Journal:
Date: 6/1/25
Brock played in the pool today and he seems a little unsure about it. He did have a moment when he seen other dogs next door and seemed like he was going to react but the moment he was called, he responded by trotting to the handler.
BREED: Bully breed blend

GET YOUR APPLICATION IN SOON!
Boulder is available for adoption! He returns in 3 weeks from PAWS!
PAWS report- Week 5/8 Summary:
Date: 6/1/25
Boulder has been working with handlers who do not have much experience throughout the week. He does very well staying focused while he is on lead.
Boulder is a great dog, we are working on his inspection for his final test, and he is a smart boy so he will get it.
Journal:
Date: 5/31/25
Today we relaxed and let Boulder play with Achilles out back in the sun. Boulder is doing great.
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Vol Jada reported
Boulder is such a sweet boy. He enjoys walks and does well with loose leash walking once outside of he building, he pulls a bit on the main floor but mainly due to excitement. In the yard he spent the first bit taking in all the new smells but once that was out of the way he would check in for pets and some attention. Boulder is treat motivated and knows how to sit. I brought out some toys for him to play with and while he was initially interested, he was still pretty distracted by his new environment. I am sure in a few days his play drive will surface once he is a bit more settled. He has a super easy going and fun personality that I can’t wait to see fully emerge as he gets more comfortable. Don’t wait to meet this guy, I am sure he will be swooped up quickly!

Duncan- URGENT-STRESSED
Duncan is available for adoption!
Duncan is back with us after being surrendered by the family he’s known for the past five years. To say he’s heartbroken would be an understatement. Now a senior, Duncan is trying to make sense of a world that suddenly looks nothing like the one he knew and it’s been hard on him.
The shelter environment has been incredibly stressful for Duncan. He’s shown a lot of reactivity in his kennel, but once he’s out and away from the noise and chaos, he becomes a completely different dog. Gentle, loving, sweet and still playful, Duncan will look at you with the softest eyes and give you the cutest smile. He’s scared right now. Confused. But behind all that uncertainty is a heart full of love, just waiting for someone to believe in him again.
Duncan needs a quiet, patient home—one without other pets, and ideally without young children, so he can take his time adjusting and find comfort in a slower pace. While his previous adopters marked him as kid-friendly, we know he’ll thrive best in a calm environment where he feels safe and supported.
He loves toys, treats, and still has so much life and love to give. What Duncan needs now is a soft place to land, someone to help him heal, and a forever family that won’t let him go again. If you have room in your heart and home for a dog who's lost his way and just needs someone to help him find it again, Duncan is waiting for you.
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 10 years
COAT LENGTH: Short
HEALTH: All rescue dogs are vaccinated, altered, and micro-chipped.
GOOD WITH: Only pet, no other dogs or cats; no small animals. Respectful children 10+.

Achilles- GRADUATING PAWS TRAINING 6/18!
GET YOUR APPLICATION IN SOON!
Achilles is available for adoption! He returns from PAWS in 3 weeks!
PAWS REPORT-
WEEKLY SUMMARY – Week 5
Achilles is doing great. We have been dialing in his obedience training. He is smart, but has challenges with keeping his focus. He is constantly alert, always looking around. His anxiety has been getting a little better, it is a slow but steady progression. We think he will do so much better in a house rather than a large industrial building like this. When he gets in his own environment where he is comfortable, he is a different dog so happy and loving life.
DAILY ENTRY: 5-31-25
Achilles has been working on his recall today. He likes to stop in front of us rather than come about into a heel. We are working on reinforcing what we want, and he will get there.
Before Achilles departed for PAWS, volunteer Jada reported:
Achilles is a playful, affectionate dog who just needs a little time and confidence to really shine. Right now, everything is still a bit new and overwhelming for Achilles, especially the noisy, busy shelter environment. He can be a little nervous when coming in and out of his kennel or walking through the main floor with all the other dogs barking. But give him a little space and take him outside, and you’ll see the real Achilles come out: happy, playful, and a total goofball!
He’s very food motivated, which makes him a great candidate for training, which is perfect since he will be part of our next round of PAWS dogs. While he’s not super into toys right now, we think once he’s feeling more comfortable and settled, his curious and playful side will only grow.
Achilles is looking for a family that's patient, active and ready to help him build confidence as he adjusts to his new life. In return, he’ll give you lots of love, loyalty, and maybe even a few goofy zoomies.

Magic
MAGIC IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Magic is a lovable goof ball that likes to play with toys and people. He knows how to sit and appears to be house trained. A round of positive reinforcement training classes would do Magic a world of good. He is good with other dogs and enjoys off leash doggy playgroups. Due to his rough and rowdy play style, toddlers and young kiddos are not advised. With proper introduction, Magic could live with another pooch.
Magic is the most happy, beautiful boy! He has some skin allergies that our medical director is working on. That, and a round of positive reinforcement training would be most beneficial for Magic are what is needed.
If you are interested in meeting Magic, please submit our pre-adoption application.

Doc- GRADUATING PAWS TRAINING 6/18!
GET YOUR APPLICATION IN SOON!
DOC IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! He returns in 3 weeks!
PAWS report-
Week Summary: Training week 5
Date 6/1//25
This week the team and new apprentices have been working on his generalization and long distance commands. We did a mock CGC pre-test to see what he needs to work on. He did well on the test. He got a 9/10. We also did some work on his long distance recall from about 20 feet away. He is doing great on all of his commands that we are working on.
Journal:
Date: 5/29/25
Today we did some reinforcement on his long distance commands. He is doing better on his recalls by not jumping up on people.
Before he departed for PAWS:
VIDEO LINK BELOW
Doc is not even or just barely 2 years old and already has experienced the worst in humans. He was shot, the bb is lodged at the base of his ear.. We are uncertain which incident caused his blindness in his right eye. Doc sustained head lesions from being ran over by a car but has healed completely. Our veterinarian said that if he is acting ok, happy, and eating, she approves of him attending PAWS for 8 weeks, which is like a fun summer camp! She will look more in-depth at his eye when he returns.
Doc is a BIG boy, he will work on all of his basic commands at PAWS, and also address his leash mouthy behavior and jumping. He is just a puppy in a body he doesn't realize is so big!
Doc is a sweet and loving boy that needs a loving home. What shelter staff & volunteers had to say about Doc: Doc came into the shelter pretty beat up. He had been hit by a car. Luckily it just bumps and bruises that he has healed from. He also has been shot. He is a very sweet boy and affectionate but he is very kennel stressed now. He comes out of his kennel very excited and a little mouthy. This decreases his time outside his kennel which in turn makes his stress worse. He needs an environment where he is not in a kennel 24 hours a day. He loves to play in the yard, has made multiple friends. He has done well with children that volunteer at the shelter (ages 8 & 10)
Interested in meeting Doc upon his return from PAWS? Please submit our pre-adoption application!

Jackpot
JACKPOT IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
Jackpot was returned to rescue over the weekend. Jackpot will need a home without dogs or other dogs that visit the family home. There were ultimately two incidents that occurred over higher value items (ie. humans and food). As such, we make these recommendations for an only dog home.
Jackpot's adopters provided the following in hopes to help Jackpot find a better forever fit:
"Jackpot is just the goodest boy. We noticed dog reactivity very early and got him formal training to work on it. Since getting the training he is a great walker and needs minimal corrections to keep him focused on moving ahead. He is very sweet and much smarter than his block head would lead you to believe so he picks up things quickly. He knows sit very well but he also knows, place, stay, and break. He will sit patiently for his food until you say break. He is definitely not a morning dog. He is very good in his crate and will go into his crate with minimal asking. Once awake in the morning, he wants his fully body rub down and to do his happy goat kicks, then he wants his bathroom break, breakfast, and then it’s time for his morning naps. Don’t worry, he will let you know several hours later that he is ready for his walk with his dramatic sighs and plopping down by the door. He LOVES blankets and especially loves electric ones where he can thoroughly bake himself. He is just starting to learn how to play with toys and the joy they can bring but he LOVES to chew. Soft toys don’t stand a chance at all.
He hasn’t met a human he doesn’t love. I think his personal goal in life is to get pets and love from every person. He is great with all ages, even very young kids. He is so sweet around little ones letting them pet him and play with and tug his ears. He is also great in a car. He loves riding in the car seeing the sights, whether that is a short trip or a long one, he has done both and is great. He hardly barks so it will surprise you when he does.
If you’re looking for a couch potato with legs that LOVES nap time, walks, blankets, cuddles, and scratches, Jackpot is your guy! He also lives for pup cups or whipped cream straight from the can. He would just do best in a house where he is the only dog and likely wouldn’t be around other dogs. DEFINITELY no cats.
He did have problems with peeing in the house randomly for the first few months but very consistent trips outside and bells on the patio door helped and we hadn’t seen an accident for a month now.
I know Jackpot will make someone as happy as he has made us these past 5 months because he is such a good buddy and house hippo. He truly is the goodest boy and deserves all the love in the world."
