PERSONALITY TRAITS
Nova is a very unique and special girl. She had a horrible start to life very early on. Because of this she needs a person(s) that will give her special attention, lots of patience, not force her into unfamiliar
situations and let people know not to interact with her until she is ready. She needs to know they will
not abuse her. Nova is not a dog for everyone – she needs a very special kind of understanding
human(s).
She needs:
• Consistency with <positive reinforcement> training and routine
• Time to adapt to new situations/things/people – all must be taken slowly
• Needs to be on leash when meeting new people, letting her use her nose to smell people from a distance.
• Due to her excitement level needs slow intro to other dogs
• Child-free environment
She is:
• Medium-high energy level
• Dog friendly
• Improving meeting new people
Once you bond with Nova she will be your best friend. She is very loyal and she will let you do anything to her once she trusts you. You will have a very faithful companion. When she gets past her
fears she knows her commands and she walks well on a leash. It just takes consistency and some time
but it’s worth it.
Are you interested in meeting Nova...understanding her needs in order for her to succeed? If so, please
contact Dan the Dog Trainer (above). She is a wonderful pooch – you will not be sorry!
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 2 years
GOOD WITH: Other dogs with proper introduction; no kids, cats or other small animals

Nyomie- DEC 2024 PAWS PRISON PROGRAM GRAD!
Nyomie is available for adoption!
CHECK OUT HER PAWS CGC VIDEO LINK BELOW!
Volunteer Jada reports-
"Nyomi is a small bundle of pure muscle, she is adorable and very strong! This gorgeous girl is looking for an active family and would make an excellent hiking buddy. She is a sweet girl who is food motivated and would greatly benefit from training to help with things like pulling on lead. Nyomi matches the energy of those around her and would do well with a calm confident person to guide her. She hasn’t shown much interest in toys since arriving at the facility but I do think with time, once she settles she will become for interested in them. She has the most regal and proud trot and sports the biggest pittie grin!"
NYOMIE just graduated the PAWS program! Here is what her last week reported! ( she took her final test and PASSED with 10/10, perfect score)
"Weekly Summary: Week 7
This week we have done a lot of work on her generalization, two parking lot circles, single cues, and had the two apprentices work with her so they can pass there test. We are making sure that she will perform all of her CGCS for anyone anytime, anywhere. She did excellent for the two apprentices and they pass there tests. She still like to chase the birds around other than that she is doing great."
PAWS 11/30/24 Daily Journal
"Today the team did some work on her verbal commands and some hand single only. She is doing very good on everything."
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 4 years
COAT LENGTH: Short
HEALTH: All rescue dogs are vaccinated, altered, and micro-chipped.

Geppetto- DEC 2024 PAWS PRISON PRISON PROGRAM GRAD!
Geppetto is available for adoption!
CHECK OUT HIS PAWS CGC VIDEO LINK BELOW!
From BBBR vol Jada-
Geppetto is such a character, how could you not love those ears with a mind of their own! Geppetto is a young playful pup who is deaf, but that doesn’t hold him back one bit. He is pretty carefree and loves to bounce around the yard playing with toys. Even though Geppetto will learn slightly differently than most dogs, this boy is very smart and will need a family who will be willing to take the time to learn along side him. He is very food motivated which makes training so much easier and he is already responding to some basic hand signals. He absolutely loves playing with toys and has plenty of energy to play for hours but with direction will calm down and is happy to sit by your side for affection. He is very sweet and affectionate and will provide endless entertainment."
Geppetto final week 7 PAWS update!
Weekly Summary Week 7:
This coming weekend are the final CGC’s for all of the dogs! Everyone has done a great job with this round of dogs and each dog has overcame so many obstacles and issues, especially Geppetto! We are right on track with where we’d like him to be for CGC’s, the only thing we need to continue to hammer in this week is his stand and inspection without treats. He has his days where he doesn’t do so well and takes steps away from the person inspecting him because he’s coming closer to the handler to nudge their hands for treats. Geppetto got a bath this week and he did very well! He just stood there and accepted everything going on, then after he had the zoomies and ran wild all over the place! His best friend this round has been Lily as they spend so much time each day together, in the mornings they even put themselves in the kennel and wrestle!
Daily Journal Entry 11/29/24
Today we had the apprentices work with Geppetto for their final test and both the dog and the handlers killed it! Geppetto has awesome generalization skills with anyone he works with and stays extremely focused on each task. It has been so fun watching Geppetto work and adapt with various people. He does such a great job working for love and pets when he isn’t being rewarded with food!

Bruce
Bruce is available for adoption!
Thank you Jada for the handsome photos of Bruce!
Volunteer Jada reports-
"This handsome stud melts every heart that is lucky enough to meet him. Bruce's personality is really starting to shine through as he settles in. He is an 11 year old, mostly blind senior, but you would never guess after spending even just a few minutes with him. He is spunky, playful, confident and best of all so incredibly sweet. Bruce takes a little bit of time to get used to new environments but once he gets a lay of the land his adorable personality shines. Despite being mostly blind, he adapts quickly. Bruce can be a bit picky when it comes to food and isn't overly food motivated, unless it is really high value. But he is very responsive to his name and is fantastic at following your voice and responds quickly to being called. He enjoys soft squeaky toys and really shows his playful side with them. Bruce loves to cuddle up on the couch and burrow his snout right into the crook of your arm. He is such a sweet boy and everyone that has met him has fallen head over heels for him!"
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
You really can't get more of a perfect senior dog, than Bruce. We are not just saying that.. he is a GEM.
Bruce arrived to us from Stockton Ca where he was found as a stray and sadly not claimed. It is mind blowing that no one came to pick up this sweet soul. He is such an EASY HAPPY guy!
Despite at 11 years of age and him losing his former life and everyone he ever knew and loved, Bruce is resilient, super friendly to all humans and not reactive to other dogs. Bruce is partially blind (or almost completely blind), but he still can have a great time, is playful and fun and enjoys toys. His hearing is on POINT!
Bruce would do best in a home solo or with other dogs that respect his age and can understand him bumping into things, both other pets and people. He can locate his food bowl and water, and doesn't have accidents in his kennel or an office area he was decompressing in when he arrived. We would say potty training he has down to a T.
Someone snatch this older gentleman up and give him the best golden years of his life! He in turn will give you the best years of your life with all his love. No puppy behaviors to work around, Bruce is turn golden key!

**What the shelter veterinarian had to say about Bruce's vision: Doctor suspects Progressive retinal
atrophy (PRA) is an inherited eye disease that leads to blindness in dogs. PRA is a non-painful condition that tends to progress slowly over time, often starting with a decreased ability to see well at night. While there is no cure available right now, most dogs adapt well to their vision loss and continue to have a good quality of life.

Brock- STUDENT AT PAWS PRISON PROGRAM!
Brock is available for adoption!
Volunteer Jada reports
"Look at this stud! Brock is such a handsome boy. He is equal parts fun and affectionate. This boy is built like a rock and is very strong. He does pull on the lead on walks and would benefit from some basic obedience. Brock shows a real affinity to learn, he is food motivated and shows a lot of human centered focus. While he doesn’t have much under his belt as far as basic commands he learns quickly and truly enjoys the process. This boy likes to please and it is obvious he will bond very strongly with his new family. Brock is higher energy so he will need an active family but he does settle down. He showed some interest in toys but it did not last very long. He is a very affectionate boy and loves to be close and will melt for pets and scratches. This guy is so fun and sweet, but will also need a family who can handle his strength and zest for fun!"
The shelter reported-
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Brock is good with other dogs and enjoys off leash doggy playgroups. He's good with respectful, older (7+) kiddos, due to his size and goofiness. He is a loving, goofy, playful boy but is kennel stressed and doesn't always give a great first impression. He would enjoy having a doggy housemate.
What the shelter staff and volunteers had to say about Brock:
Brock is a beautiful big headed baby. He is very loving and affectionate. He is kennel stressed but once you take him outside he is wonderful. He will run around for about a minute then he's ready for love. He does well in playgroups. He will play rough and tumble with the best of them. He is very gentle with our 8 year old volunteers and also with our adult volunteers.

Mikey- STUDENT AT PAWS PRISON PROGRAM!
Mikey is available for adoption!
Volunteer Jada reports "Mikey is an adorably sweet and wiggly guy who loves to play. He is a bit of an anxious guy in his run and the shelter life definitely has him stressed. Although wiggly with excitement he was easy to leash up and take out to the yard. He enjoys nothing more than to be close to people and will settle down for some calm scratches and rubs. Mikey is not super treat motivated but will take them very gently, I would say he is way more motivated by affection. Mikey does enjoy playing with toys but can be a bit picky on his favorites. Mikey is looking for a family who will be willing to help him build some self confidence and independence through some training and will give not shortage of love and loyalty in return!"
The shelter reported-
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Mikey is a very affectionate sweet boy. He wants a person. He will give you the
saddest eyes when he's trying to come out of his kennel. Melts your heart. He loves playtime. He does well with the other dogs. Likes to play. Then is sweet and loving to
humans. He gets excited and his tail goes a million miles an hour lol. He does get a little "humpy" once in awhile. He is improving on that, but will need some guidance.

PETER- STUDENT IN THE PAWS PRISON TRAINING PROGRAM!
Peter is available for adoption!
Peter is just as sweet as can be. He is happy and playful, he LOVES his toys and shows no signs of resource guarding, he happily shares with humans and loves the interaction.
Shortly after Peter arrived he left for the PAWS training program. Here is a week 2 report!
" Training Week 2
Peter is exceeding all expectations. I cannot state enough how great of a dog he is. He is only on the second week of training and is already proficient with week 5 skills. Peter has been able to learn all of the basic commands already. He does well with his duration and is getting better every day with distanced commands. This week we are going to start working more on generalization and get Peter used to working with others.
1/2/25 Daily Journal Entry
We have started working through CGC 1 and 2 with peter today. We thought this would be a little difficult, because of how friendly Peter is with everyone, but to our surprise he did great. He sat there with us the whole time, focusing on the handler and allowing people to walk up and pet him without him breaking from a sit."

Biscuit- DEC 2024 PAWS PRISON PRISON PROGRAM GRAD!
Biscuit is available for adoption!
Biscuit is an adorabull, healthy boy that has a great zest for life! He came to the shelter as an owner surrender but the back story is he was picked up by oil field workers as a stray and hung out with them at an oil field rig for about 3 weeks – until their rotation ended. They then brought Biscuit to the shelter. (We thank them for not just leaving Biscuit to fend for himself!)
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Biscuit is a big goofy guy whose limbs seem to have a mind of their own, flying in all directions as he gallops around the yard. He can be slow to warms up to new people mostly around his kennel. But once out in the yard where he has the freedom to create space for himself he opens up quickly. Biscuit is both toy and treat motivated and knows some basic commands. (UPDATE! HE IS NOW A PAWS TRAINING GRAD, HE KNOWS A LOT OF COMMANDS!) He is great when it comes to giving the toy back in order to continue the game of fetch. His silky smooth fur is perfect for endless petting while he relaxes, sitting on your feet. Biscuit would do best in a home with older kids and has previously lived in foster with other dogs.
Notes from the shelter: “Biscuit is a big, snuggly meatball who has done great with other dogs, is lovely on leash, is adorable with his toys and is outgoing with people. He’s not *that* giant, but he is thick. He is medium energy at best. He is 3 years old and weighs 90 lbs. We are happy to run down more info or do more vetting to increase his chances of being selected. He’s a cool dog, seems well-suited for almost any home. Kids are a-ok (maybe older if better though because of his size)”
Former Foster Family- “Biscuit is big and bouncy but when tuckered out (just a walk or a swim in the water) is a great snuggle. He's great on leash, totally house trained, and tolerates his kennel very well (he eats in his kennel, sleeps there overnight, and is kenneled when left alone). He is a lover of all dogs (he's in foster with a rescue director so has lived with about 30 dogs over the last 4 months) and is pretty respectful if dogs don't want to play. He is absolutely safe with little dogs, we recently had an adult 6 lb-er and she absolutely dominated him. Biscuit is living with 4 cats, has no interest in them, if they often end up sleeping on the couch together.
Biscuit loves water, loves fetch and tug, and gives great kisses! He's very human attuned and eager to bond with his someone, though is more comfortable with women than men. Biscuit does startle at loud noises/commotion and can be a nervous fellow in new situations. He spent a week with an 7 year old and was almost immediately comfortable with her. He’s good in the car, mostly quiet, oozes loads of joie de vivre and has become a wonderful, proper pet. He is not destructive in the house and doesn't have any situational anxiety that we have seen. His recall is perfect and he enjoys lots of off-leash time too. He has been in foster since 4/6. He was at risk for euthanasia in the Pecos Animal Shelter.”
BREED: Bully breed blend
AGE: 3 years
HEALTH: All rescue dogs are vaccinated, altered, and micro-chipped. HW negative.
GOOD WITH: Other dogs AND CATS; older (8+) respectful children; other small animals unknown

Bear
Bear is available for adoption!
Bear is a WAY cute little dude with a TON of personality. His little front legs have a personality of their own but do not impede his ability to run and have fun in the play yard. Bear is a fan of walks, and does pretty darn good on leash! Bear loves his toys, he loves to play in the yard with his favorite "soccer balls", especially if someone lightly kicks them and he can run and grab them. He is a BIG fan of treats treats and more treats, and of course every meal. Bear does have an arch-enemy, the evil garden hose. Bear will need a bit of guidance and direction during gardening time, hopefully his relationship with any future hoses can be mended and if not, he's fine with him and he hose having separate yard time.
Bear is underweight, but with his appetite we will get him to a healthy weight in no time!
Volunteer Jada reports-
"Bear is a compact little cutie. Despite his size and bowed little legs, this boy is all muscle and is strong! Bear loves his walks and is a good walker. He can get easily overstimulated around food and toys. So he will need a family who can help him learn to manage his excitement around those two things. Bear will trade one toy for another and would play forever if he could! Bear will need a family who will be willing to work with him on setting boundaries and teaching him how to settle in new and exciting environments. Bear is heartworm positive and will need to manage his activity levels during treatment but will be ready for a lifetime of adventure once he is healthy!"

Ranger
Ranger is available for adoption!
Ranger is just about as sweet as they get! This boy loves to literally lean into his people. He arrived last week on the tail end of a doggie cold (URI) but has since recovered. He is a bit unsure of the outside world but adapts with some encouragement and patience. We are pretty sure he is suffering from a broken heart, so many do when they lose "their people". He is non reactive when walking by the others kennels. He is a perfect size, about 50 lbs, and could afford to put a couple lbs on, which we are working on!
This boy is a treasure.
We will continue to update his bio and photos as we get to know more about him.

Lavender- STUDENT IN THE PAWS PRISON TRAINING PROGRAM!
Lavender is available for adoption!
Volunteer Jada reports-
"What a joy, sweet Lavender is. This gorgeous girl is sure to put a smile on your face with her goofy antics and playful spirit. She was very excited in her kennel was was easy to manage. Lavender thinks that the play yard is the absolute best thing in the world. She was overcome by the zoomies and zipped around the yard with the biggest smile on her face. Lavender is very affectionate and loved to be close and to be pet. She loved playing with toys and was also very treat motivated. She can get a little impatient waiting for treats and will try to jump. But she was easily corrected. Lavender is up at the PAWs program and is going to do so well. They will surely fall in love with her and I know anyone who meets her will do the same!"

Jewels- STUDENT IN THE PAWS PRISON TRAINING PROGRAM!
Jewels is available for adoption!
Jewels just recently arrived to us and hoped onto transport to our PAWS program where she will get 24/7 love and training! Please check out our PAWS page for weekly updates on each PAWS student!
Here is what the shelter reported-
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Jewels is dog friendly and enjoys off leash doggy playgroups. She's good with respectful kids and cats! She's the sweetest dog who only wants to receive love, give love and play for the first time in her life. Jewels is a victim of lousy humans – they neglected her, left her to roam around with other dogs in the neighborhood, made her live outside, let her have litter after litter and apparently never considered having her spayed. They had been cited several times for neglect but no other action has ever been taken. The previous owners were tired of her continuously having litters, couldn't maintain her and brought her and the five puppies to the shelter.

Big Blue
Big Blue is available for adoption!
This guy is the gift that keeps giving as we learn more about him! "Big" Blue is the epitome of resilience, silliness and love. He loves his Benebones and his big soft comfy bed. At 6 years old, he has suffered his WHOLE life with a condition called entropion. This is where the eyelid turns inward and the lashes scratch and abrade the eyeball, which is incredibly painful. Our veterinarian believes it has affected his sight a bit over the years, but you could never tell he's uncomfortable. He believes this is how life is supposed to feel. Well, come January 3rd, he will be pain free! He will have surgery to correct this condition.
Big Blue is a "green" dog. He is easy to handle, gear and walk. He only pulls a tiny bit, but it is very manageable. He loves treats, to be pet and coddled, and how could we not do that?! Big Blue is a BIG DEAL! We keep telling him how worthy he is, and that his whole life is going to change with a new forever family and pain free peepers!
UPDATE- Big Blue had eye surgery and is recovering well! He will have a follow up appt on the 17th!

Maverick- STAR STUDENT IN THE PAWS PRISON TRAINING PROGRAM!
Maverick is available for adoption!
Volunteer Jada reports-
"Maverick is quite the stud and he carries himself with a lot of confidence. Mav is a very strong boy but he was easy to handle. He was pretty wiggly when leashing but walked easily on leash and even paused at thresholds allowing me to walk through first. In the yard he was a happy guy who was very treat motivated but didn't care too much for toys. While he didn't seem to know much as far as basic obedience, he was so willing and engaged to learn. He is such a smart boy and in no time he was catching on to "sit", "down" and even "sit and stay". Mav is currently up at the PAWs program and I am so excited to see his progress. He is so smart and is going to do so well!"
